Survey / LiDAR
Stahl Sheaffer provides mobile LiDAR scanning, aerial inspection, and field survey capabilities, ensuring we can provide the most appropriate method for your project, balancing speed, safety, and cost. We perform feature extraction on LiDAR and survey data to create AutoCAD and Microstation base mapping and planimetric files, allowing engineers to make well-informed design decisions to tailor modification and construction plans to fit the situation at hand. Stahl Sheaffer can also create “intelligent” 3D models of the survey data. Project data can be imported directly into AutoDesk, Bentley, and ESRI software packages as an industry standard .LAS format for clients and used directly as if clients were on site to pull measurements, locations, and clearance information, saving time and money.

LiDAR Scanning

Mobile Survey-grade LiDAR Scanning (Leica Pegasus:Two) produces survey grade data suitable for design work. The greatly enhanced resolution and detail allow us to collect much more detailed data at higher (safer) speeds. This speed increase allows us to perform long range/high end mapping projects such as interstate corridor mapping and state highway survey contracts.
Ground-Based LiDAR (FARO Focus 3D HDR System) survey-grade ground-based laser scanning is used to collect high resolution LiDAR data and panoramic imagery to extract topography, traditional survey data, and 3D modeling information. This data can be used for stockpile volumetrics, plant process modeling, Building Information Modeling [BIM], underground tunnel and quarry mapping, road surface modeling, overhead clearance modeling, and bridge inspection and modeling.
Traditional Survey

Total Stations are used by Stahl Sheaffer individuals experienced in performing field surveying for both roadway and site development projects. Our field work facilitates the development of mapping coverage to depict existing conditions and present proposed construction. Our field survey procedures are performed using total stations with electronic field book capability or with our mobile LiDAR unit. Field data is collected and electronically transferred to in-house computers where it is compiled, checked, and plotted.
Aerial Inspection

Mavic 3 Enterprise Midi-Sized Drone enables our FAA Part 107-certified sUAS pilots to leverage advanced technology to capture high-quality data from large areas and hard-to-reach locations. Using the Mavic 3 Enterprise, we support structural engineering projects with detailed aerial inspections of bridges, buildings, and other complex sites without the need for traditional high-risk access methods. We deliver:
-
High-resolution photos and 4K video of areas of concern.
-
Accurate visual documentation for structural review.
-
Rapid data collection from secure ground-based locations.
-
Significant reduction or elimination of risks associated with high-reach, bosun chair, or swing-stage access.
Our aerial inspections provide a safer, faster, and more cost-effective solution for capturing critical structural information.
