Comprehensive Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Program
State College Borough, State College, PA
SERVICES
The Comprehensive Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Program project identified a prioritized list of areas of concern for pedestrian safety and provided cost-effective countermeasures for implementation at the top five safety locations throughout the Borough of State College. The Pennsylvania State University borders the Borough with facilities that serve over 40,000 students, faculty, and staff. After the areas of concern were identified, Stahl Sheaffer also completed the second part of the program by developing a comprehensive action plan by providing specific engineering, planning, enforcement, and education recommendations to promote pedestrian and bicycle safety in the Borough. Additional analysis was provided on the safety effects of the Leading Pedestrian Interval (LPI) and the results were presented at the Pennsylvania State Transportation Engineering and Safety Conference in 2008 and at the 2009 Annual meeting of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) in Washington, D.C. The report was selected for publication in the Transportation Research Record Journal. |
