Stahl Sheaffer Engineering assisted as a consultant engineer in periodic masonry construction inspection and coordination with the Penn State OPP.
Stahl Sheaffer inspected the masonry for 225,000 SF of new construction for compliance with the contract documents and referenced industry standards. Items inspected included substrate preparation, mortar mixes, joints, flashing, weeps, reinforcement, ties, control/expansion joints, and overall workmanship. Stahl Sheaffer also developed a nonconformance resolution procedure for the OPP’s approval in case issues were identified in the field during construction, including procedures to address items that could be spot corrected in the field and noting issues that would necessitate a stoppage of work. Each visit included visual inspection, photographs, and documentation of the ongoing masonry operations, conducted at varying times of the day and several times per week.
