Stahl Sheaffer provided bridge design, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, water obstruction and encroachment permitting, bid document preparation, and construction consultation for the replacement of an existing multiple culvert roadway stream crossing with a new single-span bridge. Wetlands were identified and delineated within the project area. An alternative analysis was conducted to review alternate roadway alignments that would avoid wetland impacts while accomplishing the project goals. Stahl Sheaffer employed minimization strategies and worked with Southcentral PA DEP to complete permit approval allowing de minimis impacts to exceptional values wetlands.
This project involved the use of context sensitive solutions which resulted in the application of architectural treatments in keeping with the surrounding landscape. The proposed single-span bridge provided a significant improvement over the existing multiple culvert scenario for Aquatic Organism Passage, including fish migration.
