Centre County Fire Station 82
Centre County Public Safety Training Center (CCPSTC), Centre County Government, Pleasant Gap, PA
Stahl Sheaffer served as the Structural Engineer of Record for a new building at the Centre County Public Safety Training Center (CCPSTC). The building serves as a multi-use facility and a hub within the training center campus. It provides storage for emergency vehicles used for training, storage for equipment for both training and grounds maintenance, and serves as a support and gathering space for training and maintenance needs.
Stahl Sheaffer designed a structural steel mezzanine within the Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) and coordinated the detailing and load requirements with the PEMB manufacturer to avoid a double-structure along the exterior walls. Stahl Sheaffer detailed the perimeter wall and foundations as conceived by the project architect to improve the aesthetic of the metal building by replacing the standard metal siding up to a water table with a masonry veneer on concrete block backup. Detailing was coordinated to mesh with the traditional construction of the PEMB above. In addition, Stahl Sheaffer designed the slab-on-grade for fire truck traffic and detailed the foundations for the reactions provided by the PEMB engineer. A deep foundation system including grade beams and drilled piers was deemed to be the most appropriate system for the construction budget to be maximized. The full building design was selected after bidding.
