The project involved comprehensive site, civil, and structural work related to the underground and tunnel-enclosed steam system serving the buildings on Penn States main campus. Projects included rehab and restoration or replacement of the underground vaults and tunnel enclosures, replacement of piping and related pipe supports including design to resist thrust forces, and the isolated conversion of the steam system to hot water (HW).
Site work included documentation of existing conditions, and rehabilitation requirements for the site for the vault and tunnel replacement sections. Site utility documentation for changed conditions including plan and profile of the utility piping.
Structural work at the end-user buildings included analyzing foundation walls for penetrations, detailing of housekeeping pads for equipment, and piping support coordination.
