Survey Technician

Responsibilities

  • Work primarily in the field on control, boundary, topographic, DOT, construction, and pipeline/natural gas surveys.

  • Collect survey data as required per industry and client specifications, scopes of work, and work plans.

  • Drive stakes to set grades on construction projects.

  • Know, understand and demonstrate safe working/operating methods of assigned tools and equipment.

  • Assist others on the survey crew.

  • Occasionally work with other disciplines as needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • 3 years of experience in the role of Survey Technician/Instrument Operator

  • Willingness to continually learn new techniques and processes as well as operate various types of equipment to become more efficient

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and/or walk long distances

  • Ability to work overtime as needed

  • Ability to travel and work outside, in all types of weather

  • Ability to write legibly and convey technical information as well as the ability to effectively present information, communicate, and respond to questions from groups of co-workers, clients and the general public

  • OSHA 10, Safeland USA and CPR/First Aid or ability and willingness to acquire it

  • A valid driver’s license and daily access to a motor vehicle

  • The ability to obtain state and federal background clearances to permit working on-site when necessary

  • Computer skills with AutoCAD Civil 3D, ARC GIS and Topcon Magnet software

  • Experienced in controlling the function of surveying instruments and calculators

  • Associates degree or higher in a survey program or equivalent is a plus

  • Proficient with Topcon equipment (GPS, Robotics, Total Stations, Levels, and Data Collectors)

  • Ability to work effectively with other technical professionals

  • Strong organizational skills
