Environmental Scientist

Responsibilities

The candidate can expect to work on land development, energy development, and transportation as well as natural resource restoration projects. The successful candidate will work in both office and field settings. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Wetland identification and delineation with report writing.

  • Basic use of GIS systems in field work and report completion

  • Chapter 105 and Section 404 waterways impact permitting

  • Natural resource assessments with data compiling and analysis

  • Threatened and endangered species coordination and surveys

  • Erosion and sediment pollution control design

  • Coordination with regulatory agencies both verbal and electronic

  • Work closely and openly with staff in completing project deliverables.

  • Assistance with proposals for new projects

Requirements

  • BS degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, biology, wildlife and fisheries or related fields.

  • 3-10 years of work experience in environmental consulting, civil engineering, or related experience.

  • 3 years of wetland delineation experience.

  • Working knowledge of plant identification methods

  • Ability to take direction and complete assigned tasks.

  • Good oral and written communication skills to convey and present technical information.

  • High aptitude in time management and organizational skills.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment with other professionals.

  • Ability to complete field work in various weather conditions and rugged terrain without assistance.

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required such as safety glasses, safety vest, wading boots, hard hats, etc.

  • Ability to accommodate occasional overnight travel.

  • Valid driver’s license and daily access to a motor vehicle.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of wetland delineator training and plant identification courses.

  • Attendance at regulatory workshops and regulatory update

  • Basic GIS and resource data collection software use

  • CADD drafting

  • Erosion and Sediment Pollution Control Plans and NPDES permitting experience.

  • Professional Wetland Scientist (WPIT or PWS), Qualified T&E Species Surveyor, Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control
