Twin-Pipe Structure Replacement, Geauga County, OH
ODOT D-12 GEA-166-01.08 Bridge Replacement
Stahl Sheaffer is the design consultant for this twin-pipe structure replacement beneath S.R. 166 in Hambden Township, Geauga County. Stahl Sheaffer’s bridge group is teaming with JMT, S&ME, and Lawhon & Associates to replace the original twin-pipe structure built in 1961 with a four-sided concrete box culvert. As part of the scope, Stahl Sheaffer will perform hydraulic studies with several combinations of grade changes and  box sections in an attempt to reduce the culvert’s span to below 10 ft., so the district can remove it from ODOT’s bridge inventory and the burden of annual inspections.
ODOT D-12 CUY-87-15.12 Bridge Study
This project includes studying and planning for the removal of an 85-year old earth-covered concrete arch bridge on SR87 while preserving or replacing a similarly aged concrete box culvert that runs beneath the bridge span. Stahl Sheaffer is providing field survey and reconnaissance work, location of utilities, storm sewer review, and rebar detection, and coring to obtain samples for compressive strength tests on existing concrete to load rate the existing structure for the proposed conditions of additional fill and modern truck loads. The results will be used to recommend demolition and backfilling, mitigation options, or a replacement solution.
