Stahl Sheaffer Remains Fully Operational with Virtual/Telework Protocols in Place to Comply with all Safety Mandates

We have all been impacted by the circumstances resulting from COVID-19. This crisis has required that we find new and unique ways to respond to the needs of our clients and the communities that we serve. Even though our ten business locations in three states are closed to follow safety mandates, our employees company-wide are working remotely and able to provide service while maintaining social distancing protocols in order to protect themselves, their loved ones, our clients, and our shared communities.

Stahl Sheaffer continues to provide both office and field work services to support infrastructure projects while practicing safe social distancing protocols and following CDC guidelines.

Through the expertise and efforts of Stahl Sheaffer’s IT Department and our investment in technology infrastructure, Stahl Sheaffer’s staff has been and will continue to be able to access all of our resources remotely. We stand ready to provide our clients and partners with the same high-level of service you are accustomed to receiving and are available via phone or video conference to respond quickly and provide full support.

Stahl Sheaffer Announces a Strategic New Office in Harrisburg, PA

Stahl Sheaffer Engineering has opened a new office in Harrisburg, bringing the firm’s total number of locations to ten. The new office will be led by John Rautzahn, P.E., Regional Operations Manager and Director of Bridge Structures, who stated,
​“The Harrisburg location will provide closer proximity and accessibility for several current clients. It will also allow us to build more strategic relationships with municipalities, architects, developers, engineers, and other teaming partners in areas where our civil and structural expertise is needed throughout central and eastern PA.”
 
Stahl Sheaffer provides multi-discipline civil and structural engineering services, and is dedicated to continuously growing our expertise and expanding our footprint to provide better support and responsiveness. The new office highlights an ongoing mission to better support clients in regions where they do business, and a strategic focus to attract and retain talented engineers and leaders in the areas where they choose to live.

John Rautzahn, P.E., CBSI to Lead Bridge Structures and Harrisburg Operations

Stahl Sheaffer Engineering, LLC, is pleased to welcome John Rautzahn as Director of Bridge Structures. Mr. Rautzahn has more than 30 years of experience in the design and management of transportation projects for PennDOT, WVDOT, NYSDOT, the PA Turnpike, and other state and county clients. 

Mr. Rautzahn will also serve as the Operations Manager for Stahl Sheaffer’s new Harrisburg location, opening September 30. He will direct the efforts of a staff of 20 bridge engineers and technicians located throughout Stahl Sheaffer’s ten locations in the design and inspection of all bridge and tunnel projects in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia.

Jeff Sheaffer, Principal, stated, “John is very well known and respected in the engineering community. Several in our firm, including myself, have experience working with him over the past 30 years and know first-hand how capable and professional he is, and we are looking forward to more growth in our bridge discipline under his leadership.”

The addition of Mr. Rautzahn to Stahl Sheaffer’s leadership ranks will enable the firm to expand the footprint of our service area and enhance our capabilities for large, complex projects. His overall responsibilities include managing large bridge design projects, supervising and directing project teams, managing NBIS bridge inspection contracts, and coordinating design efforts.

​Throughout his career, Mr. Rautzahn has held various positions of leadership for Harrisburg area firms, including Associate Vice-President, Vice President, and Chief Bridge Engineer. He is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and M.S. in Engineering Science.

Congratulations to the Penn State School of Music for Award-Winning Renovations on the New Recital Hall!

Stahl ​Sheaffer Engineering is honored to have provided civil engineering for the renovations to Penn State’s Recital Hall, which recently received the Ingrid P. Holtzman Award from the Borough of State College for providing a quality design project to the community. This award recognizes a project that “substantially enhances, promotes, or maintains the aesthetic appearance of the Borough” and was presented at the Authorities, Boards, & Commissions (ABC) dinner in April 2019. The new 400-seat Recital Hall serves as Penn State’s primary venue for solo recitals and chamber music performances at University Park.

Stahl Sheaffer worked with the Bostwick Design team to provide the site design and permitting for this project, which included land development services for stormwater management design, erosion control plans, utility connections, grading, site layout, and design of walls for the stairs and terraced seating area.

Stahl Sheaffer Engineering, LLC is pleased to welcome David Karp as Construction Manager to our Clearfield, PA office. Mr. Karp brings nearly 40 years of PennDOT experience to Stahl Sheaffer, working in construction his entire career. His PennDOT and leadership experience will serve Stahl Sheaffer and our clients well as he applies his insights and lessons learned in managing key projects.

Prior to joining Stahl Sheaffer in 2019, Mr. Karp began his career at PennDOT in 1981 as an Engineering Technician after graduating from The Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Architectural Engineering and Technology. He was promoted to TCI, TCIS, TCM, and ultimately TCM-2, in which he was responsible for managing a staff of consultant managers, supervisors, inspectors, and PennDOT inspection personnel. Upon retirement from District 2-0, Mr. Karp received a Star of Excellence award from the District, which he will officially accept on June 3, 2019. This award is PennDOT’s highest recognition and is presented annually to employees who exemplify PennDOT’s values of service, performance, and integrity.

Mr. Karp’s project experience with PennDOT includes managing complex new roadway and bridge construction and reconstruction projects throughout District 2-0. Specific projects include the Rockview Prison and Port Matilda sections of I-99 as well as the total reconstruction of I-80 between MP 154 and 160. In addition, he has managed most of the District’s major I-80 pavement restoration projects in Clearfield, Centre, and Clinton counties in recent years including rehabilitation to several bridge structures and pavement rehabilitation. Mr. Karp was recognized for his exceptional communication efforts with the District traffic center on the I-80 project in Centre County, receiving an MVP (Most Valuable Performer) award. This project also received the Pennsylvania Asphalt Pavement Association (PAPA) paving award in 2018.
